when my girls started their "countdown to vacation" in MARCH, it felt like a lifetime away. but as it always does, time flew, and before I knew it we were on our way to "cal-i-forga". since this was Littlest's very first time on a plane, the mommy anxiety was in full swing when we set off for the airport before the sun rose that morning. the packing list was checked and re-checked, we were topped off with juice and breakfast, the backpack was packed to the brim with every time filling, attention grabbing activity i could think of, and we were set. my poor Mister, juggling luggage and carseats and babies that HAD to be carried...i could have never done it without him. but after a solid 40 minutes of heavy lifting and "stand here, don't moves" our luggage was checked and we were 100 pounds lighter.
del mar, california did not disappoint. our house was just steps from the sand and with four toddlers in tow, that in and of itself was worth it's weight in gold. 78 and sunny + a cool ocean breeze...yup...pretty much heaven. we did early morning beach walks with coffee for the grown ups and seashell collecting for the littles...parks and playgrounds, restaurants and shopping, all within walking distance from the house. mornings were slow...and we took advantage of all the kid friendly things that the neighborhood had to offer...starting out at the park and slowly making our way out to the beach when the sun burned off the morning fog. and the best part about the beach house being right there... once we got set up, if the kiddos had to potty or nap or we needed fresh towels, we could walk the few steps back and take care of it all.
evenings were filled with family time, where we soaked up as much togetherness as we could. dinners on the patio, sunset beach walks, late night playtime and one more story with Halmeoni, well after the normal bedtime had come and gone. that's what vacation is about right? bending the rules just a little...and boy did the kids love every minute of it.
when i look at their faces and the moments we were able to capture in photos, my heart is full. i so much want to give the girls amazing memories of their childhood...for them to look back and remember the fun...to know how very much they are and have always been loved. summer vacation was over in a blink...and this mama is already happily anticipating our next adventure together.
